About this event

The National Electrical Contractors Association is hosting a 6-hour program designed to prepare entrepreneurs, would-be entrepreneurs, and business owners to take a step into the world of public works construction contracting. Our last class will take place February 27, 2021.

Who should attend? If you own a small construction company and would like to work on government contracts, this for you! If you are considering starting a small construction company or business that services the construction industry, this is for you! If you are just curious about the construction industry and want to know more, this is for you too!

Doing business with local public agencies can be lucrative IF you know how it works. Public works can be more complicated than private construction projects and that’s why this program was created. Learn the basics so you can decide if this is the industry for you.

Specific FREE resources will be provided through this program, so you aren’t on your own to figure it out. There are MANY programs and people available to help you every single step that it takes to be successful in the construction industry!

SCHEDULE: Each one-hour class will take place online on Saturday mornings, beginning at 8AM.

Week 1, January 23, 2021 - Introduction. You will learn more about the program, it’s purpose and goals and what you can hope to get out of it. Meet the program speakers.

Week 2, January 30, 2021 - How to be Successful in Public Works. This session will cover legal requirements, small/diverse business certifications which expand opportunities, and many helpful resources.

Week 3, February 6, 2021 - Opportunities. Learn which local agencies have small contract programs, what types of projects they have, what types of vendors they need. FREE resources will be explored.

Week 4, February 13, 2021 - Prequalification. What it is, what’s involved, and why you need it. Bonding. What it is, why you need it, where to get it.

Week 5, February 20, 2021 - Labor Compliance. Learn the basics of contractor registration, prevailing wage, apprenticeship requirements, and why you need to know. Connect with free resources. Project Labor Agreements. Learn the truth about PLAs, PSAs, and labor agreements in general. Demystify them, learn how to work with them, get FREE training.

Week 6, February 27, 2021 - Steppingstone Week. Graduation! Get FREE resources! Meet prime contractors! Connect with potential mentors! Learn about real opportunities. Make the decision to take the first step!
