In the last couple years, a revolution in Artificial Intelligence has captured the public imagination. We're entering the era of Deep Learning, a terrifyingly powerful and intimidating set of technologies. Using sophisticated neural networks, these systems have started to achieve the remarkable: describe the content of images in English words, play GO (the ancient board game from the Far East), at the championship level, and understand natural language with the sophistication of a human interlocutor. The implications are profound – and alarming.
Like all frightening technology revolutions, however, empowerment comes from understanding. This talk is about making Deep Learning understandable enough to not fear.
Join Tech in Motion as we explore the depths of today’s hottest trending topic in the technology industry: Deep Structured Learning. This tech talk will focus on answering questions such as:
1. What is Deep Learning and how is it related to Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks?
2. How does a Neural Network have the ability to understand what's happening in an image?
3. What are the practical future uses of this kind of technology and can it be controlled?
4. What are the existential and philosophical implications for genuine thinking machines?
*Due to the intimate nature of the event and our limited number of seats, please only RSVP if this topic is of serious interest to you and/or your company. This event is on a first come, first serve basis. Thank you*

MEET OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Sheldon Fernandez | VP of Engineering, Infusion & CTO, PersonIf
After receiving his undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Waterloo in 2001, Sheldon founded Infusion (www.infusion.com) with four classmates, an innovation firm that specializes in the blending of creative prowess with engineering know-how. During the last 14 years, he helped grow the company from 6 people to over 650, with offices around the world. In that time, he’s served as the company’s chief architect, and has been responsible for honing the firm’s technical direction amidst ongoing industry changes. As a result, Infusion is now considered a leader in the emerging technologies and consulting realm.
Additionally, Sheldon served as Chief Technical Officer for the noteworthy Infusion spin-off, PersonIf (www.personif.com) a ‘people discovery’ platform that radically changes the way the entertainment industry locates talent. In addition to winning Microsoft’s cloud solution of the year award in 2012, the technology was used as the casting engine for The Glee Project, X-Factor, American Idol and Sports Illustrated.
Finally, Sheldon has coupled his entrepreneurial endeavours and engineering exploits with numerous non-technical pursuits. He completed a Master’s degree in theology at the University of Toronto in 2008, and pursued thesis work in the area of neuroscience and metaethics. He has anchored his humanitarian sensitives with the African Jesuits Aids Network (AJAN) in Nairobi, where he assisted with infrastructure projects and HIV/AIDS education. He also pursued creative writing at Oxford University to hone his interests with literary craft, and finally, completed a professional training program at the Montreal Institute for Genocide Studies in mass atrocity prevention.
