Description

District IX 4-H Council

Coastal Cleanup, Educational Seminar, and 4-H District IX Council Meeting

Why: It's the season of giving, so why not give back to the planet! (The Earth is the reason we have seasons, after all!)

Spend the day learning about how to help the environment, followed by a canoe coastal cleanup. A great way to spend a Saturday... Get outside, enjoy Florida (while it isn't hot), learn about 4-H (if you aren't already in it), and meet other youth that are passionate about giving back and the environment!

What: Pinellas County 4-H and District IX 4-H are hosting an educational event, coastal cleanup (in canoes), and council meeting that ties in with the state 4-H service project, Project LIFE (Living in Florida's Environments). This project focuses on creating a greener tomorrow by hosting beach cleanups, planting trees, and participating in citizen science activities. This event is free. Canoe cleanup will be led by an experienced guide, SeaGrant Agent, Libby.

Who: This event is open to the public. This event is great for anyone interested in learning about some of Florida's marine environments, and/or anyone interested in learning more about 4-H. The cleanup and seminars are more suitable for ages ten and up, but are welcome. All District IX (Pinellas, Pacso, Polk, Sarasota, Hillsborough, and Manatee Counties) 4-H members are encouraged and welcome to attend. District IX board and council members should attend, since there will be a council meeting at this event. (if you would like to join as a Pinellas County voting delegate, let me know!)

Canoe portion is limited to ages 10 and up, and to the first 20 participants that sign up for the paddle that day.

Where: Weedon Island Preserve, St Petersburg, FL, in the auditorium and classroom and outside

When: December 2, 2107
