Engaging Students Through Problem Solving: II
Goal: Participants will gain instructional strategies and tools for elevating oral and written academic discourse in support of conceptual understanding.
- Participants will continue to explore best practices for orchestrating academic conversations that are accountable to the content and supportive of a variety of learners.
- Participants will engage in creating success criteria to support students in responding to rich tasks.
- Participants will explore techniques for supporting writing in math
- Grade Band break-out groups will analyze the student work from the prompts they created and will create new tasks/prompts that reflect their new learning and are aligned to appropriate checks for understanding.
Structure: This session will have a whole group component and a grade band break-out component. Participants will have an opportunity to share artifacts with each other and support each other in learning from the experiences and artifacts shared.
Intended Audience: Principal designee-one per school- it is recommended that the same person attends all the sessions and be responsible for leveraging the content and experiences of the sessions to build capacity within the school. This person should ideally be a coach or instructional lead and should work with the professional development committee.
Shared Learning: Participants are expected to maintain a folder/binder of related resources and artifacts. Please take your curriculum materials with you to all sessions
