Session Title: Engaging Agentic Students Through Problem Solving: Rituals and Routines I
Goal: Participants will gain instructional strategies and tools for leveraging academic conversation as a support for concept development, problem solving and as a pre-cursor for writing.
- Participants will explore best practices for orchestrating academic conversations that are accountable to the content and supportive of a variety of learners.
- Participants will design rituals and routines for teaching, implementing and sustaining student-driven academic discourse in response to rich problems.
Participants will begin to design rich tasks and prompts for discussion and writing using SMP 3 as a guide.
Structure: This session will have a whole group component and a grade band break-out component. Participants will have an opportunity to share artifacts with each other and support each other in learning from the experiences and artifacts shared.
Intended Audience: Principal designee-one per school- it is recommended that the same person attends all the sessions and be responsible for leveraging the content and experiences of the sessions to build capacity within the school. This person should ideally be a coach or instructional lead and should work with the professional development committee.
Shared Learning: Participants are expected to maintain a folder/binder of related resources and artifacts. Please take your curriculum materials with you to all sessions
