The Paraprofessional Institute will run from November 2016 until February 2017.
Over the course of 4 months participants will be introduced to the special needs learner through a variety videos, case studies and group activities. Paraprofessionals will also participate in meaningful discussions pertaining to Special Education Laws. They will be also introduced to the 13 Classifications of Disabilities. Paraprofessionals will learn about Response to Intervention(RTI), Universal Design for Learning(UDL), Specially Designed Instruction(SDI), Functional Behavior Assessment(FBA), Behavior Implementation Plan(BIP), Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), the Service delivery models and continuum of services that are aligned to “A Shared Path to Success” and the "Framework for Great Schools”.
Paraprofessionals will also engage in developing a support plan for SWD, learning to implement a quality IEP, and identifying effective IEP features. Paraprofessionals will also gain knowledge around their roles and responsibilities
