Distinguished Speaker Seminar: Mark Wilson

Leading for legacy

Thursday 1 February 2018, 12.15 - 1.15pm

Saïd Business School is pleased to welcome Mark Wilson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Aviva, to speak on Thursday 1 February.

About the talk

At a time of decreasing trust in institutions, business leaders have a responsibility not only to their company, but also to society more widely. Successful leadership depends on fostering an organisation’s people and culture as well as on taking decisions that stack up for society in the long term.

Mark Wilson will reflect on what he calls being a ‘good ancestor’ and how it has informed his leadership throughout his career. From successfully navigating the Asian insurance giant AIA through the global financial crisis, to leading the turnaround at Aviva to position it as a 300 year old disruptor, he will discuss how business must focus on being a force for good in the world.

About the event

The seminar is open for anyone to attend and will take place at Saïd Business School from 12.15pm. Registration is essential so please use the Register button above to confirm your attendance.

About the speaker

Mark Wilson has been Aviva’s Group Chief Executive since 2013. Today Aviva is the largest insurer in the UK and a FTSE Top 30 Company. It has 33 million customers across 16 countries and has £475bn assets under management. Aviva is at the forefront of the digital revolution in insurance and in June 2017 it was named U.K. Business of the Year by the London Evening Standard.

Mark has long been a champion for sustainable business and is an advocate for the beneficial role business can play in society. In September 2015, he spoke at the UN General Assembly in New York during the launch of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He is a member of the Business and Sustainable Development Commission and he was the first FTSE 100 CEO to sign up to the 30% Club Executive Committee commitment on gender diversity.
