Democracy and Economic Development in Africa
H.E Mokgweetsi EK Masisi, President of Botswana will give his insightful lecture at Saïd Business School in collaboration with the African Studies Centre.
An educationist at heart, H.E Mokgweetsi EK Masisi started his career after graduating from the University of Botswana as a teacher majoring in English and History. His rise through education gave him grounding for his successful career in politics serving in various cabinet portfolios before becoming Botswana’s 8th Vice President by the time he was 52.
As Vice President, he was responsible for the oversight of government programmes on Poverty Eradication, Economic Diversification Drive, Employment Creation and other flagship programmes; such as the National Aids Council, Rural Development Council and Leader of the House of the National Assembly.
Masisi was sworn in as the 5th President of the Republic of Botswana on the 1st of April 2018.
The lecture will include an audience Q&A moderated by Prof. Wale Adebanwi, Director of the Africa Studies Centre & Rhodes Professor of Race Relations.
The seminar is open for anyone to attend and will take place at Saïd Business School.
