Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

We know that many of our researchers are based outside of Glasgow, sometimes even outside of the UK, and that this can pose issues in terms of accessing the training or advice that others hear about ‘through the grapevine’, as well as feeling part of the researcher community. We would like to warmly welcome our PGRs at a distance to an event in Glasgow on 27th October.

This event will feature:

  • A welcome event at the UofG Library. This will be open to all researchers and will feature talks, tours of the library and archives, one-to-one advice sessions, as well as other activities relating to scholarly publishing, managing your data, findings, and academic identity.
  • Opportunity to attend a Research Integrity Workshop from 2pm-4.30pm (these are mandatory for all new PGRs). Please note, you must register for this workshop via MyCampus. [RSDC 6026]. You can find a step-by-step guide on registering via MyCampus on the PGR blog.
  • Opportunity to meet the PGR writing adviser, Jennifer Boyle, to discuss the support currently available to distance PGRs, including writing bootcamps, and appointments via Skype.
  • A meal at a local restaurant, with the chance to meet with other PGRs and UofG staff, from 5.30pm-8.30pm. If you are attending, please let us know if you have any special requirements.
  • Overnight accommodation in a local hotel (Please note-we will cover the cost of this.)
  • The College of Arts Graduate School will run a “Meet and Greet/Q&A” session for Arts distance researchers between 11am and 12pm – venue tbc

This event is free of charge for researchers who live outside of Glasgow. This is the first time we’ve run anything like this and places are limited. However, we are committed to getting feedback and evaluating how it goes.

If you are travelling with children, please get in touch with us directly as we’re very open to discussion on how we can work with you on this (e.g. covering the cost of the overnight stay in your hotel for the child or a partner). We would also be able to put PGRs in touch and recommend activities for the Friday afternoon. We may also be able to include family members at the dinner (held at a local venue) on Friday evening at a small extra cost.

We want to accommodate as many distance PGRs as possible, so if there is anything we can do, or you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
