Event description

Description

What: This small-group leadership summit is designed to engage school leaders in conversations around disruption, culture, and creating moments that shift the paradigm for a learning institution. Participants will look at theory, exemplar schools and reflect upon their own successes and challenges. Throughout the day, leaders will draft and design a disruptive-action plan to strengthen their personal leadership philosophy and the effectiveness of their school.

The WHY matters: Why does disruptive leadership matter? It’s about unlocking potential and rethinking the foundations of leading and learning. As school leaders, the most powerful tool we have is the culture we create. School culture is the elasticity that allows a school to grow and stretch. Creating a disruptive culture centers around questions that ask, “why,” “what if” and “do we need to do that.” Simply, disruption aims to challenge a status quo culture that often protects and perpetuates school as usual. In order for us to create educational disruption, leaders must model risk-taking in all facets of school leadership. This is not about making your job easier. It is not about making it more efficient. It is about making your leadership more effective. It is about modeling what we expect from our teachers in their classrooms every day. We must think about leadership differently; if leadership doesn’t change, the status quo is perpetuated. We’ll spend the day diving into these topics, questions, and leadership frameworks.

Summit Takeaways:

  • A framework to implement disruptive leadership in your school/district

  • Review of research and case studies around disruption in schools

  • Practical examples and review of model schools

  • A network and resources to further learning post-conference

Summit Learning Objectives:

  • Rethinking the role of school leader as lead learner

  • What is relevant engaging authentic learning (REAL)? Why does it matter?

  • Model and explain "disruptive leadership"

Summit Capacity is 25 participants. This session is designed to be interactive and meaningful. We believe that keeping a capped size to the event ensures all participants can connect, network, and create momentum post-summit.
