Event Details

Too often, teen pregnancy sustains the cycle of poverty for young parents and their children, inhibiting the educational and economic opportunities for which Women United advocates. As community leaders, we refuse to accept this reality and know that if properly supported, young parents can thrive in their academic and family lives.

Join United Way of the Bay Area's Women United leaders, the Board Policy Committee and local community experts for an engaging discussion about how parenting, education, and social and legal supports can disrupt the cycle of poverty for young parents.

Jane Adams, Senior Health Student Reporter with EdSource, will moderate the discussion.

Panelists include:
  • Diane Beetham: Director of Public Health Nursing, San Francisco Department of Public Health
  • Jennifer Chou: Reproductive Justice Attorney, ACLU of Northern California
  • Charlene Clemens: Consultant, Teen & Family Services
  • Veronica Garcia: Policy and Social Justice Division, San Francisco Human Rights Commission
Event co-sponsored by:
Women United Steering Committee UWBA Board Policy Committee

United Way Bay Area

United Way Bay Area (UWBA) is leading the community to overcome barriers to economic opportunities. We bring together individuals, organizations, and entire sectors of research-based work to create a lasting impact on our community’s most pressing issues, with a focus on coming together for good to end poverty.

UWBA creates big and lasting impact through workplace campaigns and other fundraising efforts that empower change-making organizations to strengthen the entire Bay Area. We also run and partner with programs that work to end the cycle of poverty so that all residents have the opportunity to prosper and thrive.

We take an innovative, holistic approach to ending the cycle of poverty in the Bay Area through advocacy and programs that support all ages—providing free access to family support, financial stability, job opportunities, and basic needs.
