Description

Overview

Mindfulness for the People, in conjunction with Academy for the People, is pleased to offer *Disrupting Systemic Whiteness in the Mindfulness Movement, an immersive self-study experience designed exclusively for white mindfulness researchers, teachers, and practitioners on a racial awareness journey.

Key points of self-study include:

How does my own white racial identity impact my approach in mindfulness research, teaching, and practice?

What does it mean to want/need to engage People of Color as a white mindfulness researcher, teacher, and practitioner?

How do I reduce my own potential for harm to People of Color as a white mindfulness researcher, teacher, and practitioner?

Core Content

Begin each morning engaging thought provoking content that supports disrupting systemic whiteness from within. Special topics of interest -- rooted in Mindfulness for the People signature curricula -- include locating and responding to white racial innocence, white racial comfort, and white fragility.

Applied Practice

Assigned Think Tanks will anchor each afternoon with transformative techniques that support application of core content to mindfulness research, teaching, and practice. Organizations and teams that want to cultivate and/or transform existing mindfulness initiatives are encouraged.

Real Talk

Once the core content and applied practice have concluded, the Real Talk begins. Spend each evening with mindfulness experts of color to gain greater insight on the significance of disrupting systemic whiteness in the mindfulness movement.

*All programming content, name, and materials are trademarked and copyrighted

FAQs

When does the Institute begin and end?

Disrupting Systemic Whiteness in the Mindfulness Movement begins the evening of Tuesday July 30th and ends the afternoon of Friday August 2nd.

Is the Institute appropriate for People of Color to attend?

Disrupting Systemic Whiteness in the Mindfulness Movement is designed exclusively for white mindfulness researchers, teachers, and practitioners on a racial awareness journey. This Fall we will announce a Summit that exclusively centers People of Color in mindfulness research, teaching, and practice.

What topics will the Institute cover?

The morning content will cover topics from signature Mindfulness for the People curricula. Specifically, locating and responding to white racial innocence, white racial comfort, and white fragility. We will spend the afternoon applying morning content to mindfulness research, teaching, and practice interests.

Do I have to stay at the Institute hotel (Brewhouse Inn & Suites)?

We have secured a block of rooms at Brewhouse Inn & Suites to offer ease of planning only. We encourage you to locate accomodations that feel most comfortable for you.

Are scholarships available to attend?

We will have a limited number of "work study" opportunities that provide a reduced cost of admission in exchange for logistical support of the Institute. Details will be provided in June.

I can't attend this year. What other ways can I support?

Thank you for asking! On the registration page, you can donate to Academy for the People-- our non-profit adult/continuing education arm that is also supporting the Institute.
