As spring approaches, opportunities for growth are unfolding all around us. There may be a new skill we have always wanted to learn or to create closer connections to other educators. We may find ourselves looking for ways to contribute to our community and to make a greater difference in the world. This year, at Discovery Education’s Spring VirtCon, innovative educators will take the lead and run the agenda.  They will share classroom strategies around the creation of authentic work, methods of collaboration and the benefits of reflecting upon and celebrating our work.

All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work.” - Calvin Coolidge

There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.”- Ronald Reagan

AGENDA:

For All The World To See: The Transformation of Visual Storytelling

We are storytellers by nature, driven by primal desire to connect, and the power to tell visual literacy. Visual literacy is the power to tell the difference.

10am Dennis Grice

6 Ways to Show What You Know

Is testing the only way to assess students? Of course not! Give students ownership of their learning. Here are 6 simple activity and project ideas you can start right away using apps and resources you probably already have.

11am Rachel Yurk

It’s about Learning - Not the Device

Let's stop talking about devices and empower the teacher and learner to focus on higher-level learning. Tune in to learn about great resources and how to implement them to make the classroom environment stronger while increasing learning and motivation.

12pm Keynote, Todd Wirt

Embracing Failure in a Creative Classroom: The digital transformation of classrooms worldwide has given students many opportunities to experience an environment of choice. With increased freedom and creativity, failure is naturally going to become a part of the process.  Participants in this session will gain insights into designing their classrooms to foster creativity and embrace failure.

1pm Tracy Carpenter and Zulma Whiteford

Building Community Through Creativity

As educators, our job is to nurture and develop a broad range of capabilities in each student. During this session we'll share examples of best practices from a dynamic community of creative educators. Join us as we explore how to infuse creativity in the classroom to make environments that transcend geographic limitations and provide spaces for students to create, make mistakes, collaborate and solve problems

2pm Matt Monjan

Farm to Table - A SAMR Immersion Lesson

SAMR is an instructional model designed to help educators infuse technology into teaching and learning. And while it is one of many educational models, SAMR seeks to transform learning experiences so they result in higher levels of achievement for students. During this session we'll explore a Farm To Table transdicplinary lesson through the lens of the SAMR model. Participants will leave with real life examples and practices that they can apply in their classroom immediately.

3pm Closing Keynote, Dacia Jones

Engage, Inspire, Expect and Inform!

Engage students with inspiring activities that raise expectations in the classroom, tying authentic learning to standards by including students in the planning process. We will explore ways to fund classroom activities through strategies that have raised more than 10 million dollars for educators in the past 6 years.  We’ll go beyond the classroom walls with virtual field trips and demonstrate how to connect your students directly with olympians, musicians, actors, astronauts, sports figures, engineers and role models in every field.
