Discovery Cave Crawl
Mon, March 27, 2017, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM CDT
Lost River Cave can help you and your children dig deeper into Kentucky’s karst environment with the Discovery Cave Crawl!
On the tour, you will be climbing up and down rock and mud areas, stoop walking and crawling on hands/knees and belly. You will visit areas of the cave where it is possible to see cave wildlife such as crickets, blind beetles, bats and salamanders. Trained guides will take you to the area where Civil War Soldiers wrote their name with smoke on the cave passages. They will teach you basics in Caving Safety, Cave Ecology and Geology, Local History and teamwork.
Must be 6 years or older.
When dressing, consider that you will be in a natural place and will exit the cave muddy and damp. Also know that anything that you are wearing on tour may be permanently stained. These are some things to consider when preparing for the tour:
Wear long pants that are difficult to tear, such as denim jeans or nylon wind suit pants.
Socks and a comfortable pair of shoes that cover the toes and heels.
Long sleeve outer shirt. If you choose to layer, do not layer two long sleeves; they will get too hot.
Bring a complete change of clothes to wear home. This includes socks, underwear, pants, shirt, and shoes.
A garbage bag large enough to carry the dirty clothes home.
Water and a snack to enjoy on the way home will be appreciated.
Gloves are required so as to not damage any cave formations.
Kneepads are not provided but recommended for this tour.
