DBC 2018 Information and FAQ's

All our groups are currently waitlisted. Please register for a waitlist spot, and if we are able to open additional spots, they will be offered in the order you register on the waitlist.

This year's Discovery Bible Camp 2018 theme is Shipwrecked- Rescued by God! This year’s DBC takes kids to an uncharted island and anchors them in the truth that Jesus carries us through life's storms.

During a typical day at Shipwrecked DBC, kids will go on adventures through activity stations with their Crews (small groups of approximately 5 kids and one leader within a larger age appropriate color group). Every station is designed to reinforce the daily Bible Point in a hands-on, interactive way that keeps everyone engaged. These stations include games, sciency fun experiments, bible stories, music, snacks and more!

Discovery Bible Camp is June 18-22, from 9am-Noon each day. Kids that are 3 years old {by March 15th} and potty trained, through finishing 5th grade are welcome to attend DBC. Register your child for the grade they are in this school year.

The cost is $40 per child. The registration fee includes all program supplies, a t-shirt for each child, and download code for this year's music for each family. We also have limited scholarships available-- please contact dbc@lakegrovepres.org to apply.

Childcare is available for kids birth-3 (after March 15th) for volunteers helping with the program. Email childcare@lakegrovepres.org for more information.

FAQs

What does being waitlisted mean?

If you are waitlisted, you have paid for your ticket and once a spot opens up you will get a confirmation email that confirms that you are now off the waitlist. We hope to be able to open spots for everyone to attend DBC, but are limited by space and volunteers. If a spot does not open up, your money will be refunded. If you want to check your waitlist status, email dbc@lakegrovepres.org

Can I volunteer for DBC?

Yes! We need about 100 volunteers to make DBC happen, so we would love your help. Volunteers must have finished 6th grade or older, and can help part or all of the week. To apply to volunteer, you can do so here.

What ages can attend DBC?

Kids that are 3 years old {by March 15th} and potty trained through finishing 5th grade are welcome to attend DBC.

Is there a discount for multiple children in the same family?

Due to rising costs of supplies, we are not offering discounts on tickets as we need to cover our program costs. However, if your family has a need, we are happy to consider you for a scholarship-- partial or full. Please contact dbc@lakegrovepres.org to apply.

Does DBC fill up? What can I do if my child’s grade is full?

Our Discovery Bible Camp does fill to capacity each year. The number of children we can enroll is based on the number of team leaders we have. Because there are varying numbers of children who register at each grade, we have to close some grades before others. We do our best to accommodate everyone, but if your child’s grade is full you will have the option of placing his/her name on a waiting list.

What is a typical day at DBC like?

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You can contact Stacy Barham at dbc@lakegrovepres.org or the church directly at 503-636-5656.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable and/or refundable?

Due to the fact that we hit our capacity for the event rather quickly, registrations are not transferrable, except within the same family. Registrations are refunded based on the discretion of the director, and the open spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

Can I update my registration information?

You may update your registration information, but you must call or email us to do so. Email dbc@lakegrovepres.org or 503-636-5656

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No-- we will have your information at check in.

Are the adult leaders screened?

Since we are fully committed to providing a safe environment for your child, we have an extensive screening and training process for our volunteers. To apply to volunteer, you can do so here.

What happens if I have to pick up my child early from DBC?

If you have to pick up your child early from DBC, please visit Information Central and we will locate your child. Because there are non-stop activities going on all day on our campus, please add just a few extra minutes to your pick up time. If you let your child's leader know at the beginning of the day, this will expedite the process.

What will the spirit days be so we can plan ahead?
“Spirit Days” are a fun addition to the DBC week to get the kids excited about something different each day as follows:

Monday – Crazy Sock Day

Tuesday – Crazy Hair Day

Wednesday – Dress like a Pirate Day

Thursday – Color Group Day (dress in your group's color)

Friday - DBC T-Shirt Day

What should I bring/wear to DBC?

Please have your child dress appropriately for an active day. Shorts or pants and tennis shoes are recommended, as kids will be going outside for several activities, and will play active games. For this reason, we ask that your child does not wear open toed shoes (like flip flops.) While camp happens at church, it is not recommended that your child wear their "Sunday best." We'll be having so much fun that your child will be much more comfortable in play clothes.

If your child has special dietary needs, you may pack them a separate snack, or contact us for a list of foods we'll be serving (we also provide alternative snack options for those with allergies.) If you do send a special snack, please note that we are a peanut-free zone.

You may send a backpack with your child, but note that it will not travel with them throughout the day (and will stay in the sanctuary, unless they have a special medical or dietary need.) You are welcome to send sunscreen, water, etc. but these items are also available throughout the day during breaks.
