Description

Discover Mount Diablo State Park in a whole new darkness on this evening family outing on the eastern base of North Peak. Bring a flashlight and find out what wakes up once the sun goes down in Perkins Canyon! Learn about unique geology and mercury mining on the foot of Mount Diablo and listen for owl calls, also keep an eye out for toads, bats, wolf spiders, scorpions, and other critters that go bump in the night. Be sure to bring plenty of water, a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots recommended.

Meet: State Park parking area off Morgan Territory Rd, 1/10 of mile from the intersection of Marsh Creek Rd. and Morgan Territory Rd.

Directions: From I-680 North or downtown Walnut Creek head east on Ygnacio Valley Rd., continue on Ygnacio Valley Rd. for about 7 miles. Make a right onto Clayton Rd. and continue on Clayton Rd for 2.5 miles. Continue onto Marsh Creek Rd for 3.4 miles and then make a slight right onto Morgan Territory Rd. Parking will be on the right.
