Event description

Description

Art Deco is known for its sinuous curves, polished surfaces, sensual materials, and erotic depictions of the male and female body. But during Deco’s height in the 1920s and ’30s, physical health was under enormous threat. How and why did its fantasies become so misaligned with the realities of the world? In this Art Deco Weekend edition of his popular talk, Tim invites you to take a fresh look at the ideals on view in the Wolfsonian’s Deco: Luxury to Mass Market.

Tim Rodgers, Ph.D., has directed The Wolfsonian–Florida International University, a museum and research center located in Miami Beach since 2015. He received his doctorate and master’s degrees from Brown University. His area of expertise is modern and contemporary American art. He has authored numerous articles, curated a wide range of exhibitions, presented lectures throughout the United States, and has served as a consultant for the Walt Disney Real Estate Development, the Heinz Foundation, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, among others.
