Directed Open Studios: Jewelry - Full Day JANUARY
Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (EST)
Yes! The Asylum's recently upgraded Hot Craft area is ready and waiting for new jewelry students!
Taken some classes in jewelry-making and ready to start out on your own projects, but still uncomfortable working by yourself? Perhaps there is a technique you learned briefly in Jewelry I or II but you'd like to explore it more? Want an expert's opinion to help when you reach a project snag? Join Corkie for a full day of Directed Open Studio! Students can work on a project of their choice. With personalized attention, students will be guided into problem solving, tackling more complex design, soldering solutions and introduction to different tooling.
Students will proceed swiftly and successfully through independent projects with the help of expert guidance, and gain enough further knowledge of the tools around them in order to be confident working independently in the Artisan's Asylum jewelry studio (or in their own).
Jewelry I at Artisans Asylum or proof of basic skills by appointment with the instructor. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
A lab fee of $20 for consumables and sterling silver will be collected at the first class.
What to Bring:
Sketched ideas, your tools, and the $20 lab fee in cash or check made out to the instructor. Please wear close-toed shoes and use hair ties to secure long hair. An apron is great for keeping your clothes from destruction but is optional.
Corkie Hobbie has a BFA in Jewelry from Pratt Institute, and worked as a studio assistant for most of her time there. She has been working with metals and creating jewelry since she was fourteen. Currently she creates work out of a studio in her home in Cambridge. She is also passionate about knitting.
This one-day workshop will run Sunday, January 19, 10:00am - 5:00pm
REFUNDS: We offer full refunds for any class cancellations more than three days in advance of the class start date. After that point refunds are contingent upon the Asylum being able to fill the seat. No refunds whatsoever are offered for same-day cancellations. To request a refund for a class, please fill out this form.
CANCELLATIONS: Your class may be cancelled if too few people register. A decision will be made a few days before the class is scheduled to run, and you will be notified of the cancellation and your registration refunded in full.
