DESCRIPTION

This FREE CE-eligible workshop will provide mental health professionals with information about a method of electronic health information exchange that is secure, scalable, and puts the provider in charge. Through participation in the workshop attendees will learn about the mechanics of DIRECT secure messaging, how to acquire an address from a Minnesota state-certified vendor, and what the clinical implications and documentation concerns are when using this method of information to enhance patient care

2:00-2:30 Registration

2:30-2:40 Introduction of presenters, expectations, and learning objectives

2:40-2:50 The Minnesota mandate for interoperable exchange of information and options for behavioral health providers

2:50-3:00 Clinical implications of electronic exchange including informed consent and patient discussion

3:00-3:30 What is DIRECT secure messaging? How does it work? What are privacy and security features? DIRECT exchange and HIPAA.

3:30-4:15 The mechanics of DIRECT exchange, acquiring an account, Minnesota approved providers, use of local and national directories for messaging with a variety of providers

4:15-4:25 Clinical discussion of documentation in an electronic environment

4:25-4:30 Session wrap up and questions
