Direct from Veracruz Mexico - Sones con Andrés Flores
Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 7:00 PM (PST)
One of the most respected masters and musicians within the son jarocho community, Andrés Flores Rosas comes to the Bay Area to present both old and new compositions as a soloist at La Peña. Featuring Bay Area artists, Andrés will take the stage, blending a mixture of sounds, from traditional sones to modern fusions. The night will also consist of holiday sones typically played during the months of December in Veracruz. Between the frenzied strumming of the jarana or the quick rift of a requinto, this night will prove to be unforgettable and a show not to be missed.
Originally from Alvarado, Veracruz, Andrés is a renowned luthier of son jarocho instruments, a musician and singer and is a specialist in playing the percussive instruments of the son jarocho. He has directed his own professional group (Quemayama) and heads his Taller Cascabel (a school). Andrés has been a member of the internationally renowned son jarocho groups “Chuchumbé” and “Quemayama”, both groups of the highest caliber and comprised of some of the most well known musicians of the son jarocho. Both groups have recorded several CDs and have toured throughout Mexico, in the US, Europe, and Latin America. Over the last year, Andrés has toured in Colombia with “PianoXarocho“, as well as been a featured performer with his most recent project with “Sistema Bomb”.
Andrés has received several awards at the national level for his work as a luthier. His instruments are works of arts, each uniquely elaborated by hand.
