Artist’s Statement: My sculpture comes from a need to communicate timeless, universal issues, emotions, and sensualities from a deeply personal level. In my work, elements don’t have to necessarily “go” together but when combined provide a new visual experience. I want to give my audience new experiences, sometimes pleasant even humorous and sometimes disturbing. My current method of working with wood is laminating several pieces together then carving a pre-conceived image. I have been using scrap pieces, discarded from projects from wood shop machine demonstrations to make my laminations.Experiments in laminating stone adds new dimensions to my search for form with meaning.
