Description

Special Event Highlights Local Tech Professionals and Offers Learners an Insight into Software Development as a Career

On Saturday, December 17 at 4pm, the Dinner and Code event will be more robust than previous sessions, as this time a group of innovators and seasoned professionals will be introduced who bring years of experience in the production, testing, and approval of software projects. They will share what they do on a daily basis, provide examples of their processes (storyboarding, agile tasking, iterative development, etc.) and answer any questions guests may have for them.

Event Overview:

· “Software is People” Talks at 4pm
From UX and UI designers, to project management, to back-end and front-end developers, scrum masters, and stakeholders, software is all about people. Meet some of the professionals involved in software development and discover your place in an ever changing and exciting industry.

· Dinner Break at 6pm
Guests will be provided a complimentary dinner and an opportunity to network with each other.

· Dinner and Code: “Software is People” – Continued Talks and Q&A at 6:45pm
After dinner, the panel will continue their talks and demonstrations. Then, the Q&A session will commence allowing guests to ask the panel whatever questions they may have until 8pm.

Topics and Speakers:

UX/UI Design
Linda Massie - Sr. UX/UI Designer
User experience can make or break a product, and understanding the people using your software is critical to its success. Learn what it is like to design compelling software and services entirely around the user and their tasks.

Front-End Development
Chris Burrell – Front-End Design and Development, Rackspace
Software starts with concepts and designs, but comes to a point where it needs a software developer to implement the user facing parts. This code, known as the “font-end” of the application is what the user directly interacts with.

Back-End Development
Tony Chidester – Sr. Full Stack Developer, SlideWave, LLC
Beyond the design and the parts that the user sees, software has many moving parts that work together in the background to store and retrieve data, coordinate processes, and powers user interaction. This code is known as the “back-end” of the application.

Devops
Hart Hoover - Openstack User Advocate at Cisco Systems, Founder SA Devops
Keeping developers working without roadblocks is a challenging job that only gets more difficult as an organization grows. Devops enables developers to have seamless deployments with fewer flaws, and make sure the infrastructure that developers rely on is running properly and efficiently.

Project Management and Stakeholders
Rafael Barroso – CIO, Parlevel Systems
Donovan Becker – Director of Product Development, MilTribe
Project management on large-scale software is a full-time job, and sometimes more. Ensuring deadlines are met, aligning development to business priorities, and assuring the right resources are assigned to pending tasks, project management and stakeholders play a large part in every software project.
