Dinner and a Movie: Hot Doug's
Event Information
Description
Dinner and a Movie is an online weekly dinner and movie series that everyone who loves food and film can safely enjoy together. With a streaming movie, takeout dinners from recommended restaurants, recommended recipes for dishes related to the film, and expert speakers, each Dinner and A Movie event will offer a Flatirons Food Film Festival experience from your living room.
Dinner and A Movie is intended to support Boulder and Denver restaurants and food businesses. It presents an occasion to give back to our restaurant friends and neighbors by buying their delicious takeout/delivery dinners.
Fourth Dinner and a Movie event!
Film: Our fourth streaming film will be Hot Doug's: The Movie, a look into a unique cultural and culinary institution that grew from one man's desire to create a better hot dog. Named by Anthony Bourdain as 'one of the 13 places to eat before you die', Hot Doug's pioneered gourmet casual in the most wonderful ways. Iconoclast chef Doug Sohn did it his way, defying conventional wisdom at every turn. And the results were magic. More film information, including a preview, is available through the Flatirons Food Film Festival website at http://www.flatironsfoodfilmfest.org/dinner-and-a-movie-details
Featured restaurants: Gourmet hot dog takeout/delivery meals will be available from Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs in Denver, Blackbelly and Mustard's Last Stand in Boulder, Jonny's of Longmont, and LuLu's Barbeque in Louisville.
Featured beer: Howdy All-American pilsener from The Post Brewing Co.--smooth, drinkable, and finishes crisp and clean. Cuts through the unctuousness of a good hot dog. Available for takeout at all Post Brewing Co. restaurants (Boulder, Lafayette, Longmont, Rosedale)
Speakers: Doug Sohm, former owner of Hot Doug's will introduce the film. After the film, he will discuss it with Jim Pittinger of Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs and answer viewer questions.
Hot Doug's T-shirts and bundles: Through EventBrite, we are selling Hot Doug's t-shirts (in red or blue from sizes S-XL) for $25 including shipping, and bundles with a shirt, $25 Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs gift cards, Real Dry cider four-pack from Stem Cider, and an artisinal chocolate bar from Shaneo Chocolate for $65 including shipping.
IMPORTANT: We have a limited number of general admission tickets with the Zoom speaker discussion and Q&A. If those tickets sell out, we will add tickets for viewing just the film.
How it Works
If you are ordering from one of the participating restaurants, get your meals picked up or delivered before the event. The list of participating restaurants is below and will change with each movie. If you are cooking the suggested recipes, have them ready to go at show time.
At 4:30pm (MST) on the day of the event, we will send an email with Zoom and film access information. You can join us for a live event that starts at 6:30pm where we eat and watch together. Or, if you cannot make the live presentation, you can still access the film and recorded speakers until 12:30am.
The 6:30pm (MST) live presentation starts with a live film introduction viewed on Zoom. Viewers then switch to the streaming movie platform. After the film, they return to Zoom to watch the live discussion and Q&A. At the end of the live presentation, we will send another email message with the access information for the Zoom recording.
Restaurant information
If a restaurant offers its own delivery service, we suggest that you select it over third-party services. That option helps them more financially.
Note: Even if you do not purchase a meal, please purchase gift cards for these or any of your favorite restaurants if you can do so. Gift cards help restaurants survive and give you a meal to which you can look forward.
