Description

This is a professional development opportunity for Diné Language teachers teaching in Public, Bureau of Indian Education, Contract, Grant, and Private Schools, for all grade levels, pre-K through the college level. Thus, all presentations will be conducted in the Diné language. The teachers will listen to some well-known advocates of Diné language in the schools, community and homes and also learn more strategies for improving their own teaching. Featured presenters include Jennie DeGroat, NAU Senior Instructor, Dr. Joseph Chee, Career Prep Navajo Language Teacher, Florian Johnson, Rock Point Community School Diné Language Studies Director, Avery Denny, Traditional Practitioner and Diné Culture Instructor at Diné College, and workshop presentations by Diné language teachers. They will inspire the participants with their experiences of teaching Diné language learners and provide words of wisdom regarding the teaching of Diné language to learners of all ages. Although the primary audience are Diné Language Teachers, other advocates and managers of Diné language programs are also invited.
