About this event
DIMKA is the story of an intimate friendship between the filmmaker and a Russian transgender grappling with gender identity. In every respect a paradoxical figure, Dimka herself is a study of an obsession with physical beauty, isolation, and dictatorship. At once graphic and poetic, this verité film is a portrait of a bold individual that lives out her nonconformity, as she embraces ideologies that might be her own peril.
Victoria Campbell (SVA SocDoc '13) is a New York City based filmmaker. Her work includes the documentaries Monsieur le President and House of Bones. Monsieur le President premiered at DOC NYC under New Visionary Directors. The film was also chosen for the Stranger Than Fiction series at IFC. Her short films and video work have appeared in galleries and festivals. Her editing credits include the PBS short, Andrew and Wendy. Victoria received her M.F.A. from School of Visual Arts. She teaches in New York City public schools.
Still from DIMKA, 2021.
