About this event
The Dillard University & New Orleans Black History Tour is curated to expose all attendees to the rich history, heritage, and culture of Dillard University and the city of New Orleans. Participants will travel across the city of New Orleans and stop at significant sites concerning the development of black higher education and black culture such as the sites of Dillard University parent institutions Straight College and New Orleans University. We will also see the former location of Dillard University black owned and operated hospital, the Flint Goodridge Hospital of Dillard University and Gilbert Academy, the black private Methodist high school who was affiliated with Dillard and so much more.
As its mission states Dillard University is a historically Black institution that cultivates leaders who live ethically, think and communicate precisely, and act courageously to make the world a better place. This tour will explain the foundations of how Dillard University developed into the world class institution that it is today and how we are ready to build on that foundation and work of our past leadership and embrace the vision of our 8th president Dr. Rochelle L. Ford, Ph. D., APR for “A New Beginning of Excellence & Heritage on the Avenue of Oaks”
