Description

Dimensions in Jazz is proud to present "WOLF SOUP", the music of Nieske, Hall, Mugavero & Roos.

March Madness à la Jazz

Friday, March 8th: Boston-based bassist-composer and alumnus of the late great Jimmy Giuffre’s last band, The “Liquid Dancer” quartet, brings his own long-standing quarted “Wolf Soup” to Portland for its first Portland performance in nearly 30 years. “Wolf Soup” features Bob Nieske on bass, the phenomenal Nat Mugavero on drums, Boston Stalwart Alan Chase on saxophone and the brilliant Randy Roos on guitar, an infrequent visit to Portland. Not to be missed!

The Madness Continues:

Saturday, March 9th: an appearance by Portland favorite, pianist/composer Frank Carlberg and his new quintet that he calls “Dream Machine” which features the groundbreaking accordionist, electronica wizard and multi instrumentalist Ted Reichman. Reichman has led a remarkable career, including stints with both the seminal saxophonist Anthony Braxton and with John Hollenbeck’s “Claudia Quintet”. Joining Messers Carlberg & Reichman are a trio of emerging and exciting young talents: Hery Paz on saxophone, James Dale on bass, and Jonathan Starks on drums.

Sunday, March 10th: “Madness” moves to Space Gallery where PCM and SPACE Gallery co-present the irrepressible guitar virtuoso Pete McCann and his all-star band with bassist extraordinaire Matt Pavolka; one of the great drummers of his generation, the great Mark Ferber “Dans le batterie” and in his first Portland appearance, the amazing Ben Kono on saxophone. Contact SPACE Gallery directly for tickets.

Thursday, March 28th, back at Woodfords Church with a return visit to Portland by Anna Webber’s “Simple Trio”, showcasing the intensely innovative compositions of saxophonist-composer Webber supe-ably aided and abetted by bandmates Matt Mitchell ( Of Dave Douglass’ band), on piano and the aforementioned genius percussionist John Hollenbeck on drums.
