About this event
As part of a European Union sponsored COST Action programme DIGI-net, academics and practitioners from 28 European countries are collaborating to explore the impact which digitalisation is having on older people. Some of the issues we are exploring include:
- The digital divide within the older population and barriers faced by different groups of older people including people in precarious work, migrants, the low paid and socially isolated people
-How older people are represented in social media
-Best practice in ensuring digitalisation promotes inclusivity and enables older people in pursuing lives they value.
As part of this research programme, one of the working groups focused on Age, Culture and Digitalisation will be holding a monthly online seminar to talk about state of the art research in this area.
We welcome everyone (both academic and non-academic) to join us for our inaugural online seminar. It is free and a great chance to share research, ideas and lived experiences.
For our inaugural seminar, we have two great speakers:
Dorothy Sutherland Olsen PhD. is a Research professor at the Nordic institute for Studies of Innovation, Education and Research (NIFU) (https://www.nifu.no/en/employees/dorothy-sutherland-olsen/). She will present some of the findings of the Silver Lining project. With European colleagues, she used both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore career learning within the older workforce. They found a reduction in formal learning activities among the over 55s, however this age group is much more actively involved in informal learning. She will provide examples and discuss the implications of the findings.
Cristina Tofan, Research Scientist Ph. D. Psychology and Educational Sciences Department, “Gheorghe Zane” Institute of Economic and Social Research, Romanian Academy - Iasi Branch will discuss her research on assessment needs for teachers' digitalisation skills. The study is an analysis of personal and organizational resourceful factors for reducing perceived technological stress that elder teachers might experience in the context of digitalization implementation plans. This project is developed in the national Romanian context where national authorities promote and financially support digitalization plans for the educational systems over the country. The talk is focused on the theoretical background, analysis of design, and preliminary analysis of collected data from teachers over the age of 55.
Everyone is warmly welcome! If you would like to learn more about the DIGI-net programme and how you can be involved, check out our social media pages:
