Event description

Description

This free digital skills training workshop is aimed at people aged 50+ who help run creative cultural activity.

Why we're running this training . . .

Voluntary-led creative activity comes in many forms, from community festivals, amateur dramatics companies and Comainn Eachdraidh/ Historical Societies to knitting groups and photography clubs, to name but a few. The internet, and other new technologies, can help groups grow and flourish in a variety of ways, offering new ways to communicate, secure funding and reach new members, audiences and volunteers.

Many people aged 50+ are digital experts in the voluntary-led creative sector, from helping to run groups to providing organisational support. However, research suggests that some people in this same age-group would benefit from increased knowledge of digital skills to help them in these tasks.

Voluntary arts Scotland is being funded by the Scottish Government as part of its wider Digital Scotland programme, delivered through SCVO's Digital Participation Charter Fund, to deliver this training. Over 90 people responded to our initial call for interest and told us which digital skills they most wanted to learn, this has helped shape the content of this digital skills workshop, which will take place in Edinburgh, Inverness, Paisley and Selkirk this November.

What will be covered in the training . . .

This digital skills training session will be led by Fin Wycherley, founder of Supersize Media, and will include practical demonstrations and examples, useful hand-outs and links to further information and resources. The main subjects covered in the training will be:

  • Facebook advertising explained

  • How to edit photos and create posters and flyers using Canva (free online design software)

  • How to set up and manage a digital newsletter using Mailchimp (free online software)

Places are limited to 25 people per session - we ask that a maximum of two people per group register for this workshop to allow space for a mix of participants.

*Voluntary Arts Scotland has a small budget to support a contribution towards travel costs for people that are keen to attend this workshop but are restricted by costs. This is allocated on a first come, first served basis - If this applies to you, please contact cass@vascotland.org.uk or tel: 0131 561 7333.
