Description

Are you setting up a new business or social enterprise? Do you want to brush-up on your digital skills? Need some practical support in communication and branding? Then the Digital Kick Start workshops are for you.

These hands-on workshops are specifically designed to support you to use basic equipment, online platforms and savvy know-how to help you navigate your communications and branding like a pro. Each workshop focuses on a different communication and branding area and provide opportunity for you to make and create in the session using some of the easiest to access technology and tools out there. The workshops have limited availability (only 5 spaces per workshop!) to ensure you get the level of support and one-to-one assistance from our facilitators.

All workshops are full days (i.e. 10am – 4pm) and will take place inside wehearttech C.I.C.’s office at Make. Liverpool North Docks. After each workshop our facilitators will be available for short one-to-one discussions and advice. Workshops are £90.00 (non-refundable) and include a light lunch, refreshments and resources.

Workshop 1: Graphic Design

Great design needn’t cost the earth. Join us for this interactive workshop that will show you how to make the most of online tools such as Canva and royalty free image databases to creating stunning designs. As part of the workshop you will:

  • Explore good design practices

  • Identify the key design components of your brand identify

  • Learn the technical skills to pull together logos, business cards, flyers and other promo with ease

By the end of the workshop you would have created your first piece of graphic design and be able to show it to the world!

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the workshop?

There is a small carpark at Make North Docks with limited parking. There is also plenty of free on-street parking on Regent Street, available on a first come, first served basis.

If you plan to use public transport, we're a 20 minute walk from Moorfields Station, 25 minutes from Sandhills and 25 minutes from Queens Square bus station. We are a 20 minute walk from the bus stops on Scotland Road, and taxis are readily available in Liverpool city centre.


Is the venue accessible?

wehearttech C.I.C's office at Make North Docks is up a flight of stairs with no lift available. If this is a barrier to you attending, please contact us at hello@wehearttech.com and we can see if we can make changes to allow you to attend.


You say lunch is provided, what if I have special dietary requirements?

After you have booked your ticket, please email us on hello@wehearttech.com and tell us what you need and we'll be sure to cater for you. Please make sure you email us at least one week before your workshop.


What can I bring into the workshop?

Whatever you need! We will provide equipment such as iPads, pens, paper and anything else you may need. But if you prefer to work from your own tablet or laptop, please bring it along and we'll hook you up to our WiFi.

Facilitator Biographies

Sarah Henderson

Sarah has a range of experience in both the higher education and creative industries. She is a freelance copywriter, with a background in PR and marketing, having previously been Creative Content Manager at Hit Search and Online Copywriter at Shop Direct. She has also lectured at the University of Liverpool and LJMU in the subjects of Communication Studies and Film Studies. She is also a published researcher.

She has been a director at wehearttech C.I.C. since its launch in 2013 and has facilitated training on several projects including iWell and Culture Matters, as well as working as a writer and designer on several creative projects.

In early 2018, Sarah returned to work as a freelancer after taking time out for her maternity leave and has a special interest in helping other working parents find work-life balance through self-employment.

Hayley Trowbridge

Hayley is a digital practitioner with a keen focus on using technology in community and informal learning settings to enhance people’s lives, develop skills and capacity (at both individual and organisational levels), and to address social and cultural inequalities.

In 2013, she established wehearttech C.I.C. that sees her use her passion for digital technologies to create positive social change and in 2015 co-founded Wigan STEAM, a cultural hub that deliver STEM subject training through creative activities. She also currently works with People’s Voice Media on a number of UK and European projects, using Community Reporting practices to support individuals and groups to have a voice on the issues that are pertinent to them, enabling communities to contribute to research and supporting the use of user voice in the co-designing of services.

Hayley also has a PhD in the field of media convergence and film distribution, awarded by the University of Liverpool and is a published researcher.
