DIGITAL ETHICS AND ETIQUETTE WORKSHOP

Are you wondering where everyone else has gone? Well, they are on the net. Time has come where physical presence does not necessarily guarantee company. This is as browsing at the family dinner table or while out on a date becomes a common feature. According to the Communication Authority of Kenya’s 2017 statistics, 67 % (31 million) of Kenya’s population has access to the Internet. People are spending an average of 28 hours on the net weekly in their quest to build new societies and online communities. This newly developed virtual world is said to be the mould in which society is shaped today and into the future, more so in the realm of social media platforms.

While Social media offers great benefits ranging from connecting with peers and family to accessing and submitting educational content, it has also been found, like a double-edged sword, to negatively impact on its users. Of great concerns are safety, privacy and behaviour of Internet users online and offline, especially among youth aged between 13 and 25. Such that, even with defence protocols to protect against misbehaviour such as cybercrime, bullying and trolling, Internet users have not escaped the perils of browsing. Hence, to transform Internet use into a tool for personal and strategic growth one must equip themselves with a set of e-savvy skills.

It is for this reason that the Center for Business Innovation Training (CBiT), in partnership with Sage Identity has designed the Digital Ethics and Etiquette Workshop that is offered to teenagers aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary for responsible and gainful browsing in the virtual digital world.

The workshop will cover the following key areas:

Digital safety, security and privacy
Digital Use and Time Management
Digital Communication and Emotional Intelligence
Digital Rights and Identity
E-intelligence
