About this Event

What is the impact of the Internet on Canada’s media sector, politics, and democracy? And what does that mean for the upcoming federal election in October 2019? Join us for a free documentary screening and panel discussion, presented by FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting

7:00pm - Documentary Screening

Digital Disconnect is a documentary film that explores the crucial question of whether the connective potential of social media outweighs the damage it inflicts on our minds, our families, our society, and our democracy.

8:00pm - Panel Discussion

Daniel Bernhard - Executive Director, FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting

Bianca Wylie - CIGI Senior Fellow, Co-Founder of Tech Reset Canada

The film will be followed by a discussion about the crisis facing Canadian media, the impact of unregulated Tech Firms on our virtual and physical spaces, and the impact of social media platforms on Canadian democracy. How will these issues affect the federal election in October 2019, and what can Canadians do about it?
