Are you completely new to farming, thinking about getting your hands in the soil, or wondering what kind of animals to raise?


The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission is hosting a free evening workshop for those who are interested in becoming a farmer and setting up a new farming enterprise in Southern Maryland.


5:30-5:45 - Registration + Welcome

5:45-6:00 - Introduction to Southern Maryland

6:00-6:40 - So You Want to Be a Farmer: Assessing Your Needs (Land, Water, Market)

6:40-7:10 - Farmer Panel: Lessons Learned

7:10-7:40 - Must-Have Resources: Your Essential Toolkit

7:40-8 - Networking


This workshop is designed to give participants an inventory of the tools and must-have resources to begin their farming journey from the ground up, knowing what you can do, how to get started, and who to ask for help. Hear from beginning farmers who have recently started their farm operations and get to know your agricultural agencies one on one.


Representatives and literature from various agricultural support and funding agencies will be available at the workshop. Confirmed representatives include University of Maryland Extension, Farm Service Agency, Maryland Department of Agriculture and Soil Conservation District.
