Keeping your garden productive year-round can be daunting, but some simple tips can help you grow healthy veggies easily! In this workshop, our own educator Emilie will teach you how to plan your planting schedule in advance so that you know what to plant in our unique San Francisco seasons. You'll also learn how growing different crops in different locations every year can keep your garden healthy and productive. One of the best parts of Bay Area living is year-round gardening - learn to take advantage of it!
DIG IN! Do you want to get your hands dirty? Learn how to garden this Spring! This 6-part workshop series will teach you everything you need to know to build your own backyard vegetable garden.
DIG IN! THIS SPRING
Emilie is a lover of the wild outdoors and believes nothing is more important than community and food. Outside of GFE, she serves as the Crop Manager at Fresh Run Farm in Bolinas. Previously she worked as the Garden Manager at Love Apple Farm in Santa Cruz. Her favorite plant in the garden is the blueberry bushes.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the garden?
There is available street parking, though be advised it can be challenging on weekends. Many buses and trains stop nearby, making public transportation a great option! The 44 O'Shaughnessy, 6 Parnassus, N Judah and other lines all stop nearby.
What should I bring to the workshop?
Classes are held outside in our teaching garden. We recommend bringing a hat & sunscreen, comfortable closed toed shoes and lots of layers. You may want to bring a notebook to take notes on what you are learning and we recommend bringing a full water bottle as well.
Do you cancel classes due to rain?
We try our best not to cancel classes, but if the weather report suggests it is very likely it will be pouring rain during the class time, we will cancel the class that morning. We do hold classes in drizzling weather, and recommend students dress appropriately.
