Join this session to meet and network with professors from different faculties who are keen on empowering students to create a lasting impact in the community. The panel will discuss how students can make a difference in a variety of fields including health science, education and social science. The panel will also address the importance of collaboration and working in multidisciplinary teams.
The Faculty Champions are:
Raywat Deonandan - Faculty Champion from faculty of Health Sciences
Dr Deonandan embraces new media to engage in public education. He is the co-host of the science education podcast Science Monkey (ScienceMonkey.ca) and the creator of a series of online epidemiology educational videos, in partnership with private industry (Deonandan.com/lecturio). He studies the impact of social media and other untraditional data sources for health research.
Nadia Abu-Zahra- Faculty Champion from faculty of Socail Sciences
Dr Abu-Zahra is a professor in International Development and Global Studies. She has broad interests in health, environmental issues, human rights, and education. Working with Oxfam-Quebec, and on other projects sponsored by UNICEF, the EU, and CIDA, She explored the possibilities of raising awareness of these issues.
Lisa Glithero- Faculty Champion from faculty of Education
Dr. Lisa is deeply committed to integrating an interdisciplinary, experiential and community action project-based learning approach into all courses that she teaches at the Faculty of Education. Environmental education, nature-based learning and youth civic engagement are her areas of pedagogical and research interest.Lisa is the faculty lead of the Global Education cohort and a member of the Global Education Research Network (GERN).
