- Opening Ceremony includes high profile dignitaries and selected officials
- Filled with live music, dancing, arts and crafts, international cuisine and more

The Unity Council is collaborating with local artists, Community groups and families to enhance awareness and understanding of the cultural celebration of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) throughout Oakland. The festival helps sustain and preserve Latin American cultural traditions and art forms associated with Dia de Los Muertos. This is accomplished by partnering with Oakland- based professional artists, aspiring artists, community groups (e.g., nonprofit agencies, health clinics, schools), and families to create 30 memorial altars to be showcased at the 2014 Dia de Los Muertos Festival and to facilitate traditional art making workshops.
The festival will engage families in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood, particularly the younger generation, by teaching them about traditional Dia de Los Muertos art forms, thereby encouraging the continuation of this cultural traditional.
In addition, vendors from across the state of California attend to sell art and other products from different cultures. Food vendors from different cultures use this as an opportunity to sell and display their food to the approximate 60,000 attendees from throughout the Bay Area. Music and dance are displayed on two stages, from local musicians and dance groups (youth groups are included). The event is family friendly and includes a children’s arts and craft area. Your fully tax deductible donation will help us put on this annual event. Thanks in advance for your support.
