Event description

Description

The pre-symposium training Configuration + will focus on simplified approaches and tools that can be used to set up projects in DHIS 2. Trainees will also be introduced to different data exchange solutions and processes between DHIS 2 instances as well as the migration of legacy data from other systems.

To get this most out of this course, some prior exposure to DHIS 2 is required. However, facilitators will go over the basics and main building blocks of the system. At the end of this training, participants will have hands-on experience of the following:

1. Front-end Configuration

Familiarity with the system front end is useful for training and supporting end users. It is also efficient when creating relatively simple and limited number of metadata objects. The training will focus on creating:

  • Organisation units and groups
  • Data element and disaggregation
  • Indicators
  • Datasets and sections
  • Simple data entry custom forms

2. Importing Configuration

For most projects, there is an extensive list of metadata to be created. The scope and scale of these projects usually make the creation of objects manually through the front end impractical. This training will introduce participants to tools and approaches that are accessible to programmers and non-programmers alike. Participants will be guided through both native and external apps, for instance:

  • DHIS 2 Import/export app (simple csv)
  • External apps such as BAO Import Foundry (BIF)

3. Integration and Data Migration

DHIS 2 systems are often deployed as one out of a number of platforms that represent an information landscape. To make DHIS 2 implementation feasible and sustainable, implementers need to address the question of integration and legacy data migration. Facilitators of this training will introduce participants to simple approaches for migrating data between systems such as:

  • Batch data import using DHIS 2 import/export app (simple csv)
  • System integration between DHIS 2 instances (BAO Integration Driver)
