Dharma Meets Depression

About this Event

Dear DDYP friends,

You are invited to join our "Dharma Meets Depression" event lead by Dr. Peter Lin and Ven. Chang Zhai Fashi on October 19, 2019 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, with guided sitting meditation, followed by an interactive presentation of the application of Chan in Psychotherapy.

In the past, Eastern mindfulness training has increasingly been integrated into Western psychotherapy practice. The number of article that has been published on mindfulness-based intervention has increased enormously in recent years. In general, the mindfulness literature has been written by Western practitioners who have had training in various traditions of Buddhist meditation. The perspective of Asian practitioners who have training in both Western psychotherapy and in Eastern Buddhism continues to be rare. Dr. Lin is a Western trained psychologist and a Chan practitioner who grew up in the Buddhist tradition. This interactive presentation will discuss mindfulness from several different perspectives and how mindfulness-based intervention can help people deal with depression, anxiety and mood disorders.

Dr. Peter Lin is a licensed New York Psychologist, received an M.S. in Biostatistics from Columbia University and earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Health Emphasis) from Yeshiva University (Ferkauf Graduate School & Albert Einstein College of Medicine). Dr. Lin is also currently a professor at St. Joseph's College, and he teaches a course in cinema therapy and therapeutic photography.

We hope to see you there!
