Event description

Description

Music may be a language you’re not entirely familiar with, but music certainly can move you. If you’re a creator of theater with ears, a heart, and a brain, Roland Tec is here to teach you that you have the TOOLS to work effectively with a musical collaborator, you just need the right TERMS.

Each class will begin with a group listen to a short piece of music chosen to illustrate a particular topic. You'll be asked to respond openly and freely to what you've just heard -- what moved you, what you liked, disliked, were confused by, etc. etc. Each conversation will begin a deep dive into one element that makes music communicate -- melody, harmony, rhythm, meter and more. Homework assignments are designed to help you train your ear to notice what's at play in every little thing you hear -- in the grocery store, on your phone, or in a Broadway theatre.

Whether you’re a playwright with a musical glimmer in your eye, or a lyricist or a librettist looking to work more productively with a composer, Talking Music will teach you to trust your ear and find the words to back that up.
