Description

DESCRIPTION

These limited-seating classes are for paid attendees of the DFW Writers Conference, June 9-10. For more information about the conference, please visit www.dfwcon.org. If you have not registered for DFWCon, please do so first and then come back to select limited seating classes. Registration for the conference will be verified.

Please read carefully!

Please only register for workshops you are sure you will attend, to make sure there's room for everyone to attend one.

For the Interactive Workshops (Read and Critique, So Here's My Problem, So Close and Yet So far), we have two types of participant: Active Participant and Observer. In the Read and Critique sessions and the Dialogue session, the active participants are called Readers. In the So Here's My Problem sessions and the So Close and Yet So Far sessions, they are called Petitioners. Each workshop has a limited number of active participants whose work or issue will be worked on during the session.

There will also be Observer seats available in all these workshops. Observers will be able to learn by listening in on the discussion happening at the main table. If time allows, Observers may get the chance to chime in. This is a great way for you to benefit from the workshops without having to be in the hot seat yourself!

If you're not particularly into any of the classes in a given hour,

Due to limited quantity, you may choose to be an Active Participant (Reader or Petitioner) in ONE of each kind of workshop. Don't register to be a reader in more than one Read and Critique session, for example. You can be an Observer in as many workshops as you like. If you register as an Active Participant in too many workshops of the same kind, we reserve the right to cancel your registration in some of them so that other attendees can have a shot at one.

We have three of these special types of workshop this year.

  • Read and Critique: Readers will get 12 minutes of read and critique time, with a maximum of eight minutes for reading and whatever time is left over for critique. Critique is led by members of the DFW Writers Workshop, which has specialized in read and critique since 1977.

  • So Here's My Problem: Writers at any skill level can bring any problem or question related to their writing or the business of publishing. You can ask for help with your cover letter, or your pitch, or a page from your manuscript. You can ask the panelists to help with voice, or character development, or plot structure. It's up to you. Our team of industry experts will do their darndest to help.

  • So Close And Yet So Far: Helping Good Writers Get Over the Publishing Hurdle: This workshop is designed for writers who have been querying and submitting their work and have received multiple rejection letters. Part clinic, part support group, it is not for writers who are just starting out or are still working on their manuscript. Writers will share their tale of woe and seek advice from the experts on how to move forward. The writers can even bring their rejection letters for show and tell, though it's not required.

Other workshops taught by individual presenters (Memoir, Playwriting, Technical Writing, etc.) do not have this system of two different types of tickets -- everyone is an equal participant.
