Event Details

Devils Backbone Road Ride & Ramble will be held on Saturday, September 7.  Your choice of two challenging routes with big climbs and sweeping descents while you soak up amazing Blue Ridge Mountain views.  Hydrate and grab a snack at rest stops along the routes then take it Slow by Nature at the finish line as you enjoy live music, sip on a cold beer (you earned it!) at Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows.  Revised routes maintain elevation gain along with fast descents, including the Crabtree Falls segment from previous years and new for this year, a prologue! We'll warm up with a few easy-going undulating miles before tackling the ascent of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Both routes are on 100% paved state and country roads.  The 4th annual Devils Backbone bike ride benefits the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

*New for 2019*

  • Two revised route options – both routes are loops, starting and ending at Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows in Nelson County. Both routes begin with a 3-mile warm up before climbing up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Preview the Metric Route here and view the 48 Miler route here.

Devils Backbone Brewing Company

Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows is tucked in the valley of Nelson County on 100 acres surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Basecamp offers a mecca of outdoor activities including bike races, trail run races, and festivals. The pilot brewery is where we craft our recipes on a traditional German designed 10 Hectoliter (8.5 barrel) brewing system.  This is our “test kitchen” for recipe development.  We pour fresh craft beer from our 16 taps and our pub menu specializes in oak wood -fired smoked dishes and local fare. The Brewpub opens daily at 11:30am. We are dog friendly – dogs must be on a leash and stay in our designated pet area in the Meadows.  Fast-casual is available at the outside Oak Grill along with beer and wine at the Meadows Bar. Light, made to order breakfast fare and specialty coffee is available  from The Summit 7am – 12pm daily. The Shanty opens Friday & Saturday 3pm-to close.  In the Shanty we pour rare Devils Backbone beers and a wide selection of aged spirits, with a  focus on whiskey.  The Distillery Lounge opens Fridays 4pm - last call and Saturdays & Sundays, 11:30am - last call.
