Development & Climate Days
Development and Climate Days 2016 (D&C Days)
Global ambition | Local action | Climate resilience for all
This year’s Development and Climate Days (D&C Days), to be held during COP22, will focus on how to deliver the ambition of the Paris Agreement and ensure equitable climate resilient development.
At D&C Days we share learning experiences by engaging, being productive and having fun. The dynamic format encourages people to take part and share dialogue on a range of issues that link policy, knowledge and practice. Innovative approaches (see last year’s Taste the Change session) encourage participants to interact, challenge existing thinking and to generate new ideas that will go beyond COP22.
Building on last year’s Zero Poverty, Zero Emissions theme, the 14th annual D&C Days will focus on “Global ambition. Local action. Climate resilience for all”. Specifically, D&C Days will explore three key tracks:
1. Action towards the Paris ambition
What are the practical and politically feasible ways to create equitable, low-carbon, climate-resilient economies? Do these approaches deliver climate justice?
2. Just and equitable decision-making for climate resilience
What can local communities, civil society, governments, development partners and other stakeholders do to promote transparent and accountable decision-making? And how can adaptation and climate finance reach the most vulnerable?
3. Managing climate risks in resilient development
How can innovative approaches to social policy, finance, and ecosystem management deliver resilient adaptation, social protection and a fairer approach to management of climate risk?
This year’s event is organised by a partnership between the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice, and We Mean Business (WMB).
Contributing partners to this year’s event include the World Resources Institute (WRI), Competence Centre Climate Change in Morocco (4C Maroc), Action on Climate Today (ACT), Partners for Resilience (PRF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extreme Disasters (BRACED).
