Event description

Join us for Development and Climate Days 2019 - two days of informal discussion and dialogue linking climate change and development.

At COP26 in 2020, the world expects to hear how nations will meet their Paris commitments. In preparation, this year’s D&C Days will explore the ambitious actions and transformational systems that countries are using or need to do this. The two-day event will bring together thinking from various sectors – food and agriculture, finance, cities, infrastructure, biodiversity – that are seeking coherence and cross-cutting partnerships to ensure climate resilience for all.

At D&C Days we share learning experiences by engaging, being productive and having fun. The dynamic format encourages dialogue on a range of issues that link policy, knowledge and practice. Innovative approaches encourage participants to interact, challenge existing thinking and generate new ideas.

We welcome everyone at the frontline of sustainable development and climate agendas to join us at D&C Days, including practitioners, NGOs, grassroot organisation representatives, national climate leaders and policymakers at all levels.

Our five themes

The 17th annual D&C Days will carry forward conversations from the event ‘Building a Resilient Future’ held at the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019, building on the five themes:

  • Building resilient food and agriculture systems
  • Early warning, early action to leave no one behind
  • Financing a resilient future
  • Establishing resilient cities, infrastructure and energy systems
  • Working with nature to build resilience

Within each theme, we will tackle big questions, seek effective and practical answers, and work together on fair solutions that leave no one behind. Throughout the event, we will consider how transformation of systems, gender equity, lived experience and local knowledge, and transparency and downward accountability can help deliver a resilient future.

The venue

D&C Days 2019 will be held at Casa Almarza, Presidente Errázuriz 2965, Santiago.

About attending

How do I get there?

Casa Almarza is a 14km (15 minutes) drive from Santiago International Airport and 11km (20 minutes) drive from the COP25 venue, Parque Bicentenari. It is approximately a 40-minute walk to the historic city centre and a short walk to nearby bus stops PA701 and PA388 (accessible by buses J10 and B26).

By bus from COP25: there are several routes, but we suggest:
1. Take the 109 bus from PI1628-Parada/Centro Cívico Cerrillos to PA15-Parada/Estadio Victor Jara
2. Then take the J10 bus from PA657-Parada 5/(M) Unión Latinoamericana to PA701-Presidente Errázuriz/Esq. Esperanza.

By car from COP25: A 16-20 minute drive via Austopista Central/Av. Gral. Velásquez.
Please share your rides where possible to help reduce the impact of our event.

Do I need to bring a ticket to get in?

When you register you will get a confirmation email with a PDF attachment that is your ticket. Please present this ticket when you arrive. You can either print out the PDF ticket or keep the email on your mobile phone and show us the attachment when you arrive. Tickets are not transferrable.

This event is often popular and sometimes oversubscribed to help us ensure a full house on the day. So admission is on a first-come, first-served basis for those with tickets. Not everyone who books uses their ticket so, to ensure a full house, we offer more tickets than there are places. Please arrive in good time to avoid disappointment as we may not be able to admit latecomers.

Is there disabled access?

All event areas of Casa Almarza are wheelchair-accesible and there is a wheelchair-accesible toilet.

What language will D&C Days use?

D&C Days will be delivered in English. Unfortunately, at this time translation services are not available.

Participation at own risk

D&C Days strives to create an environment that is interactive and engaging in order to stimulate dialogue with our participants. This year we will be hosting sessions that evolve around activities such as cookery, theatre performances and comedy, with physical and interactive elements. We have done everything to ensure our sessions have high levels of health and safety, however participants take part in these sessions at their own risk, and D&C Days cannot take responsibility for any injury sustained by individuals while participating.

The Development & Climate Days 2019 partners are committed to promoting sustainable development and working to reduce the environmental impact of this event.

The event will be delivered in collaboration with suppliers and contractors that also carefully consider their own carbon footprint and endeavour to reduce their environmental impact, in line with D&C Days values. This includes reducing waste wherever possible, which is why there will be no printed programmes or branded gifts, ensuring all our event materials are recycled and choosing a vegetarian menu.

To reduce the environmental impact of this event we are strongly encouraging participants to share transport where possible and avoid distribution of printed publications, taking advantage of increased electronic distribution, where appropriate.
