Description

Developing Successful New Products - 2 Day Workshop in Detroit Michigan.

Whether you’re a founder, CTO, product manager, designer, or developer, you’re probably here because of some common challenges that all companies have developing and launching new products. Never-ending projects and painful roadmap meetings don’t have to be the norm.

Successful innovators build products and services that customers willingly—even eagerly—pull into their lives. Jobs-To-Be-Done (JTBD) Switch will help you discover why your customers choose (or don’t choose) your products and services and what to do about it. Then Shape Up will help you turn those insights into meaningful work to build the new products, features or services.

Day 1 - JTBD Switch Led by Bob Moesta of the Re-Wired Group

JTBD Switch is based on over 25 years of research and practice by The Re-Wired Group and Bob Moesta, creator of over 3500 successful innovations. Bob combines a systems view of product development with a deep understanding of the progress customers want to make in their lives, to help you shift from hit-or-miss innovation efforts to successful product development. The JTBD Switch is a 1-day hands-on working session that introduces the essential mindsets, skillsets, and toolsets to help you deeply understand customer needs, and then use that knowledge to build things that help them make progress.

The JTBD workshop will cover:

  • The foundations of good innovation practices - Supply-Side vs Demand-Side innovation & Green-Line Development
  • Understanding Re-Wired's JTBD Theory, Principles, and Frameworks
  • The Process of Doing JTBD
  • How to do Successful JTBD interviews with practice
  • The Basics of JTBD Analysis
  • Case Studies and Implementation Guidelines

Day 2 - "Shape Up" led by Ryan Singer of Basecamp

Shape Up is based on 16 years of front line software development work at Basecamp by Ryan Singer and team. Over the last few years, there’s been a heightened curiosity about how we work at Basecamp. People often ask us how we get so much done so quickly at such a high level of quality with such a small team. And how we keep our teams together for years and years.

In this one-day workshop, Ryan Singer will share techniques developed during his 16 years working at the intersection of design, programming, and strategy at Basecamp. You’ll learn new ways to define projects, make bets, and delegate work so teams finish and ship changes that move the product forward.

The Shape Up workshop will cover how to:

  • Define projects at the right level of abstraction—concrete enough to set clear direction but with enough room for designers and programmers to contribute creatively. You’ll learn specific techniques like breadboarding and fat marker sketching.
  • Determine how much design to do up-front before committing to a project and which decisions to leave open for the team.
  • Break out of cookie-cutter agile methods and set timeframes that let you finish —not just iterate on—projects.
  • Improve morale and get more time to think strategically by empowering teams to define their own tasks and take more responsibility.
  • Get the team talking about knowns and unknowns to reduce risk and tackle problems in the right order.

Ryan will demonstrate each technique with real case studies using tools and language you can bring home to your team.
