Event description

Description

District regulations require that the first IEP in effect after a child with a disability reaches 14 years of age includes transition assessments and services. This training will prepare special education teachers and leaders serving middle school students to develop high-quality, age-appropriate transition plans that meet these requirements.

Participants will:

  • Understand the legal requirements and evidence-based practices for developing transition plans for middle school students
  • Demonstrate the ability to write age-appropriate, individualized postsecondary goals for middle school students
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop annual transition goals that are aligned with postsecondary goals
  • Identify age-appropriate transition services that align with postsecondary goals
  • Understand how to design a multi-year course of study that is appropriate for middle school students and aligns with postsecondary goals

It is recommended that educators participate in OSSE’s introductory secondary transition training, The Nuts and Bolts of Secondary Transition, prior to attending this session.

This fall, for your convenience, the sessions will be offered on the same dates. The “Nuts and Bolts” sessions will be offered in the morning and the Middle School Transition sessions will be offered in the afternoon.

When registering for Developing High-Quality Transition Plans for Middle School Students with Disabilities, please select one date. Space is limited and registration is required.

*Please bring your fully charged laptop to the session.*
