The Developing Fraction Sense Introductory Webinar 3 & 4 will provide participants with a taste of the full-day Developing Fractions Sense Workshop focusing on grade 3 and 4 fractions standards.

In this webinar, you will learn why visual fraction models are the key to conceptual understanding.

This webinar will touch upon most or all of these topics:

  • How to correctly define a unit fraction, which is the key to all work with fractions
  • How working with fraction blocks (e.g., pattern blocks) enables conceptual learning
  • How the use of the word "copies" helps in fraction comprehension
  • An easy way to help students avoid adding the denominators when adding fractions
  • How to help students solve problems such as 5/2 = ?/6 using fraction blocks
  • How to use benchmarks to compare fractions
  • How to instantly recognize fractions which are larger and smaller than 1/2
  • How to introduce addition of mixed numbers using fraction blocks
  • How to help students understand renaming in subtraction problems
  • A simple way to understand multiplication of a fraction by a whole number
  • How to visually illustrate word problems involving fraction blocks
