A word from the instructor...
Hi, my name is Jon Beltran de Heredia,
I am a new member of Develop With Passion® and I am excited to help
people learn game programming in a "passionate" fashion. I believe that with
its laser-focus and high intensity, a one-week course of five 12+ hour days
can deliver so much more value than a two-week, 6 hours/day course, and
of course, even much more than a 12-week, 5 hours/week course. I also
believe that learning the fundamentals well is the key thing - that's why I've
been able to work in so many languages, technologies, platforms... and why
I have never felt lost. I will be happy to help people get a good foundation of
what's needed to create games!
You should already be a developer, but this first course doesn’t assume any
prior game or graphics development knowledge at all, and it is going to be
more detailed than the others. You will create an actual 2D game over the
week of the course – we can supply you with the materials, or you can bring
your own graphics ready if you want to feel the complete thrill of creation!
Future follow-up courses will be for 3D gaming.
I've thought long and hard about it and I think simple C without pointers is
the right language for this course. You can do Windows, Mac, or even iOS
or Android games in this type of C! You can create games without using
pointers or doing any memory management at all, and thus programmers
with no prior C or C++ experience can get the full benefits from the course!
Of course, if you know C++, you will be able to use its advantages applying
the concepts learned at the course.
I am really excited at getting people who'd love to do games on
Monday at 8am, and leave them on Friday at 8pm having actually
written their first game, with the tools to create many more by
combining the skills they will be taught in areas of geometry,
algebra, OpenGL graphics, etc...
Enrollment includes....
- 5 intense days of bootcamp style instruction
- Work from the comfort of your own home
- All code artifacts created over the course of the week
