This is the first event specifically for the female artist community in Metro Detroit.

We encourage all Metro Detroit based, female artists in the following artistic fields to participate as subjects for writers to meet and write/edit Wikipedia articles about:

  • Poetry (spoken and written/published)
  • Drama (theater, television and film actresses, directors and writers)
  • Visual arts (painters, sculptors, animators, photographers)
  • Fashion design (original designers of clothing, accessories and shoes)
  • Jewelry design (original designs of wearable arts and accessories)
  • Music (instrumentalists, singers, songwriters)
  • DJs and music producers

What is a Wiki Edit-A-Thon?

An edit-a-thon is a special type of meetup to improve the online Wikipedia encyclopedia.

What are the benefits for attending this event?

  • If you are interested in learning how to contribute to Wikipedia as a writer or you know of entries that need to be edited, this is a good chance for you to learn and contribute.
  • This event will help build up the Wikipedia encyclopedia with relevant entries of women in Detroit that contribute to various arts and who are greatly under-represented on Wikipedia.
  • This is a great networking opportunity for you to meet new people who have a shared interest in the Detroit arts community.
  • This is a great place for local writers to meet potential subjects to cover outside of Wikipedia.
  • If you're a female artist in Metro Detroit and would like a Wikipedia entry, this is an opportunity for you to meet local writers and have your Wikipedia page drafted during the event.

What will be covered during this event?

  • How to create an account to edit and contribute to Wikipedia
  • How to start a new article in Wikipedia
  • Improving existing articles on Wikipedia
  • Use of references for Wikipedia articles
  • The importance of a well written and grammatically correct Wikipedia article

*Note: This event is in conjunction with and follows guidelines from Wikipedia specifically. Only parties who attend this event in person will be granted access to Wikipedia in relation to editing and creating articles.
