Join us for a guided tour inside seven of the University District's most beautiful homes with unique historic touches from the Art Deco era.

About this event

You will see period features up close, carefully preserved or restored by homeowners, including original hardwood floors, period chandeliers, artisanal crown moldings, impressive fireplaces, original and renovated kitchens and baths, vintage stained glass, and Pewabic and Flint Faience art and floor tile.

Enjoy your day in a family-friendly, inclusive neighborhood, adjacent to the Livernois and Avenue of Fashion shops and restaurants, and near Palmer Park and the University of Detroit Mercy.

Walk, roll, bike, scooter, drive or use our free shuttle service to tour the neighborhood and see the homes. While you are here, meet some of the people that make the University District such a vibrant and special place to live. The Detroit Bus Company and MoGo Bike Share are partnering with us on transportation options. Scroll down for details.

Health and Safety Protocols - Physical distancing in homes is requested, masks and shoe covers (provided) required indoors, hand sanitizer will be available. We are committed to supporting COVID prevention practices.

Accessibility Information - This almost 100-year old neighborhood has some uneven sidewalks, and not all of the homes on the tour have handrails on outdoor stairs and landings. Due to the standards of construction in the 1920s and 1930s, most interior doorways are not wide enough for wheelchairs to get through. Please consider your needs and these limitations prior to purchasing a ticket.

The Detroit Bus Company will operate two shuttle buses throughout the day, with hop-on, hop-off free service for all Home Tour participants.

The Detroit Bus Company is committed to the environment and to people. It renovates vintage buses with hand-painted murals by local Detroit artists, fresh technology features like GPS tracking and USB-ready sound systems and maintains the vehicles, which run on biofuel, through a 45-point weekly inspection.
