Description

Detroit City of Design and the Future of Work

September 9 - October 7, 2017

Opening Reception: Friday, September 8, 6-8pm

Gallery Hours: Tuesdays – Saturdays 12:00 noon to 5 p.m.

In March 2017, Detroit was invited as Guest City of Honor by fellow UNESCO City of Design Saint-Etienne, France to present a series of exhibitions exploring the future of work at the 10th International Design Biennale in Saint-Etienne to an audience of more than 230,000. Together, these three independent, multi-disciplinary exhibitions offered a survey of the city’s interconnected movements and explored imagined futures as the definition of work itself changes in Detroit. This showcase features objects and experiences from the original exhibitions Footwork, Out of Site, and Shiftspace alongside photos, video, and stories from the 70 Detroiters who traveled to Saint-Etienne.

This exhibition is supported by Detroit Creative Corridor Center, Creative Many Michigan, Akoaki, The Work Department, Public Design Trust, The Knight Foundation, Detroit Wallpaper Company and Lear Corporation.
